Desert National Wildlife Range 22 - The Mormon Well Road
DNWR 22: The entrance to the Desert National Wildlife Range (DNWR) is approximately 23 miles north of Las Vegas on U.S. Highway 95. A sign on the east side of the highway marks the turnoff to the 4-mile gravel road leading to Corn Creek Station. From the turnoff at Corn Creek Station, Mormon Well Road runs approximately 47 miles and exits on US Highway 93 - if you want to drive the full distance. A trip on the road will lead you past agave roasting pits, the Yucca Forest, a narrow limestone canyon, and a pine forest complete with a newly renovated campground. A short distance from the campground is the Mormon Well Spring that for some reason was not named for the original inhabitants of the area, but for the Mormons that ranched the area from around 1900 – 1924.
