This was a very different type of adventure for us. What started out as a typical hike to locate rock art ended up quite different. What we believe we found were the fossilized tracks of canine, camel, possible horse, and several possible whatever’s. We were told that this area of the Muddy Mts has rock going back to the Miocene era - 23 million years ago (MYA) to 5.1 MYA. Since neither one of us has a clue about that sort of thing, we are betting on something old, but not quite that old.
General information if this site is in the Miocene era: The Miocene era was one of expanding eco systems such as deserts, tundra, and grasslands. Many modern birds including herons, ducks, eagles, hawks, crows are present in Europe and Asia. Land mammals include rabbits, sloths, horses, camels, pigs, saber toothed-tigers, elephants, and rhinos are now present. In the sea are whales, seals, and fish. Also at this time is the largest shark to ever inhabit the sea, the Megalodon.
