On this trip to an area near the Spring Mt. Ranch, we found a few historic sites possibly from the late 1800’s, and a few other sties from a much earlier time. One of the sites that we stumbled upon was the ruins of an old rock structure. Strewn around the area were several pieces of old glass and some small iron artifacts. Near the ruins of the structure, on a large boulder, someone had placed a beautiful mano along with another iron artifact. It is possible that the mano may have been associated with the stone structure or possibly from an earlier encampment at the same location. Also on this hike we came across several rock shelters, a bedrock mortar, a few fossils, and some petrified wood, but no rock art. Even without the rock art, it was still a great hike.
