The Tecopa Kilns located on the western side of the Spring Mts were built in 1875 and were used to make charcoal for the silver smelters in Tecopa, California. The kilns stood until 1968 when vandals destroyed two of the three. The third collapsed during the 70's and was restored in 2004 by volunteers. Because of the method of restoration used, the newly-reconstructed kiln stood until the first heavy rains, and once again it was on the ground. I think it is safe to say that because of governmental budget cuts, it will be on the ground for a very long time.
